We promote and encourage partnerships between culture and commerce in the North East. For the cultural sector we provide networking, information, advice and training in order to facilitate partnerships with business. For business we provide advice and support on how to engage with culture and use it to unlock the benefits of creativity within employees and clients.

Business Collectors Network Exhibiton 6-17 July 2010 Business Collectors Network Exhibiton 6 - 17 July 2010 Gallery North Northumbria University Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 8ST The exhbition celebrates the end of the second year of the Business Collectors Network which was set up to encourage businesses to engage with contemporary art and artists, and consider the benefits of having work in the working environment and the vibrant dialogue that contemporary art can bring to the workplace. Secondly it supports contemporary artists living and working in the North East by purchasing their work. The members of the network display the works in their offices during the year with the collection coming together annually for public exhibition. The artists that have been purchased to date are considered emerging, although many have received considerable critical acclaim nationally and internationally, demonstrating the vibrant contemporary art being produced by artists in the region today. Artists include: Laura Lancaster, Jock Mooney, This collection provides a snap shot of activity in the North East and it is a credit to the members who have had the foresight to engage in this pilot scheme to support and engage with artists living and working amongst us in the region. Alongside purchasing, the Business Collectors Network is very proud to have an annual commissioning programme, where an artist in the region is given the opportunity to develop a new body of work, out of which a newly commissioned work is acquired for the collection. Often this commissioning process allows the Network to acquire a work of greater value than it could afford normally and also it enables an artist to take time out in their studio and produce a new body of work for exhibition or sale. This element of the BCN programme is something we are immensely proud of and wish to continue in the third year as it demonstrates our commitment to enabling the production of new contemporary art in the region. Our first recipient was Alex Charrington and in this second year, we have supported a new body of work by Ben Jeans Houghton.
