The Sponsors’ Den 2010 – The Art of the Corporate Pitch

Thursday 25th March 6-8pm Newcastle upon Tyne

Following two successful years of this Dragons’ Den style event, Sponsors Club Business Members have set aside £5,000 from the Awards pot to support an arts event or project in 2010 through a dragons’ den process. The Awards pot is funded by the subscriptions of business members.

In addition this year, the four shortlisted submissions will receive a training package to prepare them for presenting to the Dragons. The training will include a presentation skills workshop and a one to one workshop with a range of business advisors who will help guide and hone the final pitch.

The dragons are members of The Sponsors Club and will be there representing the Sponsors Club and the business community as a whole, not their individual businesses. The winning presentation will be the one that they feel does most for business. In previous years they have chosen projects that included elements of staff engagement, corporate social responsibility, children and young people and economic regeneration.

If you’ve got a great project and can see a good sponsorship opportunity or business partnership which you’d like to workshop and pitch to the Dragons, please send us a submission.

How much is available?

£5,000 for one project.

Who can apply?

Entries should come from not for profit organisations, individual artists, local authority projects or organisations who are Arts Council funded. You don’t have to be a professional group, you don’t have to pitch for the full £5,000 and the event or project that you’re pitching can take place anytime before April 2011.

How do we apply?

Send us one side of A4 in 12 point outlining why your project is good for business. Our aim is to continue to remind business that culture is good for business, especially in the current economic climate.

When is the deadline for submissions?

The deadline for the initial one page submission is Thursday 25th February at 5pm.

Who will be short listing and how many projects will be shortlisted?

The short listing panel will be made up of our business members who sit on the Sponsors Club Awards panel.

When will the four shortlisted projects be announced?

Short listed projects will be announced on Friday 5th March

If we’re chosen what happens next?

All the shortlisted projects will be offered places on a presentation skills course (date and time TBC) and the opportunity to attend a one to one session with our panel of experts to discuss the pitch and the project. The one to one sessions will run Mon 15 – Fri 19th March (excl Thursday) from 12.15-1.45pm.

Who are the experts who will help us hone the presentations and pitches?

We are still finalising the full line up but currently we have Lucy Armstrong (The Alchemists), Anthony Josephs (RMT), Barry Turnbull (Capital Shopping Centres) and Andrew Mate (Admast) signed up.

How long will we have on the night?

On the night you will be given a 5 minute slot to pitch (you can request to use PowerPoint/projection). There will then be up to 10 minutes for the dragons to ask you questions.

Please send your submissions to et@communityfoundation.org.uk or Sponsors Club for Arts & Business, Cale Cross 156 Pilgrim Street, Newcastle NE1 6SU.

Cultural Champions, North East

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Friday saw the second Arts & Business Cultural Champions event take place at Seven Stories. The event was hosted by Nick Brown, Minister for the North East and MP for Newcastle East and Wallsend and attended by arts organisations and their ‘Champions’. (A list of whom will be made available here.)

The afternoon went down a storm with everyone who was there. Food and venue were perfect and Chloe from Arts & Business head office orchestrated it all perfectly.

Further events will be held in the Midlands, South East and East of England during early 2010. Please visit the Arts & Business website if you would like more information.
